Most people were assigned the format they requested, although a small number of people were shifted from podium talks to poster presentations.

NSERC Discovery Grant Information Session
Tuesday June 13th, 11:50 - 12:35
This session will present an overview of the application process for NSERC Discovery Grant funding, and address common misperceptions surrounding the evaluation of applications for grant funding. Details of how Evaluation Group (EG) members employ the "Conference Model" to bin grant applications, and how those bins are translated into funding awarded will be of particular interest to Early Career Researchers, but there will also be ample time for participants, including Established Researchers, to ask questions of experienced former members of NSERC EG 1503 (Evolution and Ecology) and NSERC Senior Program Officer Brenda MacMurray. In that this session will occur within the 90-minute lunch break, participants can order a boxed lunch provided by the RBC Convention Centre to eat during the session for $35 (taxes and gratuities included; e-mail us at: beepeg2023@gmail.com to reserve a boxed lunch), or forage opportunistically from a nearby food truck or restaurant in the 40 minutes between the end of this session and the start of the afternoon plenary presentations.
Breaking Poster News
We are offering an option for all poster presenters (in-person or remote) to upload a pdf copy of their poster into Pheedloop (the conference registration app) so that it is visible to registered delegates during the conference and for 3 months following the conference. We encourage all poster presenters to use this option to create additional opportunities for dialogue with other delegates during and after the conference. Please prepare a pdf at a maximum of 3 MB. Instructions to upload posters will be posted on the conference website by June 1st.
For in-person posters, the recommended size for your poster is 36” high, 42” wide (91 cm high, 107 cm wide) with a maximum height of 40” (102 cm) and maximum width of 44” (112 cm) (landscape format).

Field Trips and Lunch at The Forks (June 11)
Room is still available for the out-of-town field trip to the Brokenhead Fen Wetland Trail, with myriad orchids should be in flower. Or have a relaxed morning as you take the short in-town morning tour, “History of the Forks”, that recounts the histories of the First Nations who traded at The Forks for millennia, details the arrival of outsiders who charted this territory for Europe, and tells the story of the Métis Nation, which shaped what would ultimately become Manitoba during the fur trade era. Closing Soirée at Patio 340

Following dinner and a live auction, the Franco-Manitobain and Métis band Ça Claque will play, accompanied by traditional dancers and, we expect, by many of you! Description: This workshop is designed to teach you how to create and manage a science communication (SciComm) program using social media. You will learn how to identify the target audience and an adequate editorial strategy to reach them, but also how to create a program that can adapt into your life. We will discuss techniques for creating effective science communication messages to specific audiences, how to choose the best venue for your program (e.g., YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, etc.) and be invited to think on the opportunities and strengths we currently have to reach our SciComm goals. Our workshop will foster an inclusive learning environment that recognizes our particularities as scientists and the different ways we can tackle science communication to reach different people. By planning effective science communication programs in groups, we are able to create a landscape that effectively communicates science to everyone.
