Registration Information

Early Registration will be open 16 February to 31 March.

If submitting a request to present a paper, you must register by 31 March. We will refund registration fees (but not a 1.9% transaction fee charged by Pheedloop) for individuals if they withdraw from the conference by 15 May, for instance, if a space for them to present is not available, if they decline the offer of an alternative mode of presentation, or they have other reasons to withdraw. If you have difficulty entering information when registering in Pheedloop, we recommend you try a different browser.

Basic Registration and Options

The basic cost of registration is $235 for students/postdocs (including students graduating in 2023), $450 for faculty/professionals who are members of either CBA or CSEE, with a higher cost for non-members. To join CSEE, click here. To join CBA, click here. Those with restricted financial means who plan to present a paper at the conference can contact us at beepeg2023@gmail.com (Subject Heading: “EDI Team, Registration”) to request a short form to apply for reduced registration.

In addition to registering for the conference, you can select workshop and field trip options, CBA Section lunch meetings, the Public Plenary, and the Closing Picnic. Please identify your dietary preferences, allergies, and accessibility needs on the registration form. For specific information on workshops and field trips, see the relevant pages of this website. You have the option of purchasing a box lunch from the catering service at the Convention Centre on June 12, 13, or 14 for $35 including tax and gratuities. However, lunch breaks last 90 minutes to provide ample time to head outdoors where you can explore the neighbourhood and take advantage of relatively inexpensive options at nearby restaurants or food trucks.

The first day of the conference (Sunday, 11 June), is devoted to field trips, workshops, and the opening reception. Workshops will be held at the RBC Convention Centre, as will Concurrent sessions, Symposia, and most Plenary Presentations on 12-14 June. The opening reception takes place at the Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG) / Qaumajuq (11 June, evening, free and open to all delegates) and the Public Plenary at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (12 June, evening). Dr. Allyson Menzies will present the Public Plenary, discussing her work on interweaving knowledge systems and prioritizing Indigenous values in environmental monitoring and wildlife conservation. Entrance to the Public Plenary is free, but a ticket is required due to the room capacity of 500. At this time (February and March 2023), we will limit delegates to a total of 300 tickets and restrict each delegate to one ticket. We will let you know if more tickets remain after making a portion available to the public. If you have a companion and/or a child travelling with you to Winnipeg who would like to attend, please contact us at beepeg2023@gmail.com (Subject line: Public Plenary tickets).

To wrap-up the conference, please join us for ‘Soirée à Le Patio 340’ with an informal but delicious picnic, a live auction, CSEE and CBA awards, and music at Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain (ticketed, $35 for students & postdocs; $60 for faculty & professionals) in the St. Boniface neighbourhood, the largest francophone community in western Canada.

We will gratefully accept small contributions to the CSEE-CBA 2023 conference Equity Fund, which will be used for purposes such as encouraging participation by individuals from groups that are historically under-represented in STEM, contributing to the on-site Child Care Centre we are organizing to enable greater participation by parents, or applied to honoraria for Indigenous Elders or Knowledge Keepers, with any surplus going to EDI activities of the two societies. If you would like to contribute to the CSEE-CBA 2023 Equity Fund, there is a space on the Registration Form where you can indicate an amount. If you would like to contribute, but are not registering for the conference at this time, you can find a payment link here (select “Contributors”). Questions? Contact beepeg2023@gmail.com (Subject heading: Conference Equity Fund)

Virtual Registration

Registration for virtual participants is $60 for students/postdocs and $120 for faculty/professionals who are members of either CSEE or CBA, with higher fees for non-members. Virtual participants have the opportunity to present a poster virtually (11 June afternoon); network with other registrants virtually following the on-line poster session; register for “Workshop 2: Developing a reproducible workflow in R using functions, {targets} and {renv}” (11 June, full day); and virtually attend or view a limited number of talks delivered between 12 to 14 June that will either made available by Zoom or recorded and posted on the conference website.

Child Care options

We will be operating a temporary Child Care facility at the RBC Convention Centre from 11 to 14 June, in a room adjacent to the Meeting Rooms. If you are interested in having child care or access to an infant room, please complete the form at this link to provide the number and ages of your child(ren). We will get back to you with more details. If you want to find out about Child Care options before you register, please send an email to beepeg2023@gmail.com (Subject Heading: “EDI Team, Child Care”) with your questions or for more information.

Code of Conduct: Please note that by attending this conference you are agreeing to adhere to the CSEE-CBA 2023 annual meeting Code of Conduct.
